Abalone Shell (Awabi Shell)

Abalone shell sheets (“awabi” in Japanese) not only attract squid, they protect your squid jig cloth from being ripped open by the beak of a hungry squid. They appear to the squid as a weak spot on the egi/squid lure and are great at holding your egi’s cloth together!

It comes in pearl, natural and a few other colours. It’s made to be placed in that certain area so that when the jig is on the drop, the sticker is facing up to maximize refraction and reflectiveness.

1. Cut out a diamond shape from the abalone sticker near the tail of the egi to resemble the bite mark on a shrimp (your squid jig) by another squid.
2. Stick it to the rear curve on the top side of the jig.

Its curve the reflection bounces literally everywhere as to increase the visibility in the water.

We use them on 90% of our own jigs. Some jigs actually come with the sticker in the box.

If the water clarity is bad, you can count on the abalone shell to pick-up the slack and get the job done.
